Description

Biolife Biotin 5000 mcg

Biotin is  vitamin B7 of the B complex group. Biotin is required for the synthesis of fatty acids and the metabolism of glucose. Because of its association with healthy hair, skin and nails, this B vitamin also goes by “the beauty vitamin.” It may help people with diabetes control high blood glucose levels, too. This B vitamin is especially important during pregnancy because it’s vital for normal growth of the baby.

BIOTIN IN FOOD

Biotin can be found in small doses in the following foods; egg yolk (no egg white), liver and yeast, peanuts, Swiss chard and other leafy green vegetables.

Biotin can also be found in cauliflower, salmon and bananas.

Cooking and preserving food reduces the amount of Biotin available.

BIOTIN DEFICIENCY

Although severe deficiencies are rare in most people, the following are signs of a possible biotin deficiency.

Brittle and thin finger nails.

Hair loss

Conjunctivitis

Dermatitis in the form of scaly red rash around eyes, nose and mouth.

Neurological symptoms in adults include depression, lethargy, hallucination and numbness and tingling of the extremities.

Dermatitis, conjunctivitis and hair loss usually only occur with a severe lack of Biotin.

Both physical and neurological symptoms can usually be corrected with Biotin supplements.

HEALTH BENEFITS OF BIOTIN

HAIR LOSS AND NAILS

Biotin may improve hair growth and is therefore sometimes called Vitamin H. Biotin may also help thicken brittle weak nails, although these claims have not been proven.

Biotin improves the Keratin in hair and nails, which strengthens both.

DURING PREGNANCY

Biotin is necessary for healthy fetal development, and healthy practitioners will often prescribe a combination of folic acid and biotin. Always consult a professional before using supplements during pregnancy.

DIABETES

Research is on going to establish the effects of Biotin supplements for people suffering with type 1 and type 2 diabetes. People with type 2 diabetes have lower levels of biotin, therefore supplementing with Biotin may help balance blood sugar levels.

Biotin synthesis fatty acids which could assist insulin dependent diabetics, by controlling glucose levels.
